Tackling Alzheimer’s Disease with Existing Drugs: A Promising Strategy for Bypassing Obstacles

چکیده

The unmet need for the development of effective drugs to treat Alzheimer's disease has been steadily growing, representing a major challenge in drug discovery. In this context, repurposing, namely identification novel therapeutic indications approved or investigational compounds, can be seen as an attractive attempt obtain new medications reducing both time and economic burden usually required research programs. last years, several classes have evidenced promising beneficial effects neurodegenerative diseases, some them, preliminary clinical trials started. This review aims illustrate most recent examples reprofiled Alzheimer’s disease, considering not only finding uses existing but also hypotheses on pathogenesis that could promote previously unconsidered regimens. Moreover, structural modifications performed order multifunctional compounds will described.

Microglia-Synapse Pathways: Promising Therapeutic Strategy for Alzheimer's Disease

The main hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease (AD) are extracellular deposits of amyloid plaques and intracellular accumulation of hyperphosphorylated neurofibrillary tangles (tau). However, the mechanisms underlying these neuropathological changes remain largely unclear. To date, plenty of studies have shown that microglia-mediated neuroinflammation contributes to the pathogenesis of AD, and the m...

Nu Nurse residency program: a promising, yet neglected strategy for the education of senior nursing students

Quality and safety of patient care remarkably depend on the competency of healthcare providers. As predominant caregivers, nurses crucially influence the quality of patient care (1). On the other hand, as major educational organizations, nursing schools must offer competent expertise to the students in order to warrant high-quality patient care. In this regard, finding efficient methods to grad...

Tackling Obstacles for Gene Therapy Targeting Neurons: Disrupting Perineural Nets with Hyaluronidase Improves Transduction

Gene therapy has been proposed for many diseases in the nervous system. In most cases for successful treatment, therapeutic vectors must be able to transduce mature neurons. However, both in vivo, and in vitro, where preliminary characterisation of viral particles takes place, transduction of neurons is typically inefficient. One possible explanation is that the extracellular matrix (ECM), form...
